How to Find Clothes From a Picture

How to Find Clothes from a Picture Leisara Handbag Flatlay

Have you ever found a picture online or seen someone’s post on Instagram and said, “Where can I get that outfit?!” Then maybe you tried to search for it, only to come up short? So many people are trying to search for outfits by image, and I’m sure they wish that there was a service that could just find it for them. I’m excited to teach you how you can find an outfit by picture on your own, or by using my service!

Here’s how to find clothes from a picture:

  1. Search by keywords

When it comes to looking up the outfit you’re obsessed with, you have to have some basic fashion knowledge to know what to search for.

  • What is the style of the dress or top?

  • What color is the item?

  • Does the piece fit a certain trend?

Knowing these kinds of answers will help you quickly find what you’re looking for. I’ll give you an example of what I searched for when finding this outfit lookalike.

How to Find Clothes From a Picture Vintage 70s Corduroy Outfit

Top keywords: vintage style cream silk blouse

Belt keywords: vintage croc belt

Pant keywords: rust high-waist corduroy pants

I tried multiple variations of keywords for about 45 minutes before I had gathered the entire outfit. I didn’t get an exact match for the top, because it’s most likely vintage and a rare piece. But I found a similar top that fit the vibe of the outfit.

2. Know where to search

You can always start with a Google Search, and can often find quite a few options, but Google won’t show you all of your options. Here’s where I search to find the outfit:

  1. Google - Just to get it out of the way

  2. Shopstyle - This database has over 75,000 retailers. You can search and filter it down to the color, price, size, etc.

  3. Look on specific store websites - There are smaller brands that aren’t usually featured on Google or Shopstyle, that you could be missing out on. I tried looking on Nasty Gal, Vici Collection, and Dressed in LALA for the outfit above.

Having Shopstyle plus a knowledge of a ton of different brands helps me to narrow down my search quickly. After spending years searching this way, I know, when I see an outfit I like, which store will likely carry the same item.

3. Be Diligent & have patience

It takes time and browsing through lots and lots of pages to find what you’re looking for. Be patient as you are exploring the internet on your outfit search. I find this part of the equation is what gets most people to give up. They want instant results, and not having the right keyword or knowing what stores would have such an item makes them throw in the towel.

If this is you, you can scrap steps 1 through 3, and just go to step 4!

4. OR you can book my Fashion Found service

Fashion Found is my service where I find clothes from a picture you send over. At $8 for one piece of clothing, and $12 for an outfit, this service is really inexpensive and a huge time saver when you’re looking for an outfit without the sweat of searching for it.
